Write a four-to-six sentence paragraph beginning with:
"The first time I saw her/him/them, I..." According to https://www.color-meanings.com/color-symbolism-chart/, Indigo is the color of Integrity, Intuition, Structure and Order. >> May this inspire you and help you write clear and thoughtful sentences ! Please do remember to bring your journals, on Thursday!
Due to (= En raison de) a few difficulties, I have decided to change the deadlines for reading The Curious Incident Of the Dog In the Night-Time. This will give you more time to acquire the books worry-free (= sans vous inquiéter), and to read without precipitation.
Here are the new dates: - Thursday, November 16th: PART ONE_Chapters 2-53 (included) / pages 1-37 (= 37p) / "44:24" on audiobook. - Thursday, November 30th: PART TWO_Chapters 59-113 / pages 38-99 (= 61p) / from "44:25" to "2:11:51", on audiobook - Thursday, December 14th: PART THREE_Chapters 127-167 / pages 100-155 (= 56p) / from "2:11:52" to "3:30:43", on audiobook - Thursday, January 11th: PART FOUR_Chapters 173-211 / pages 156-217 (= 61p) / from "3:30:44" to "4:51:58", on audiobook - Thursday, January 25th: PART FIVE_Chapters 223-Appendix / pages 218-272 (= 54p) / from "4:52:11" to the end, on audiobook I hope your first full week is going well! Before Tuesday, don't forget to follow instructions from this blog's Welcome page. I've added this note: PLEASE remember to come in class with your name paper ready to put on your desks! = MERCI de penser à venir en cours avec votre étiquette de prénom déjà prête (grosses lettres visibles de loin) ! Have a great weekend, too!
You may not start reading as soon as (= dès que) you get the book (some Terminale pupils will sell their old copies) : PLEASE WAIT for our first "real" class (= Tuesday, September 19th), at least !
>> AFTER our first "real" class (September 19th), you may start reading! >>> Here is the first limit / deadline (= échéance, date butoir): - Thursday, October 5th: PART ONE_Chapters 2-53 (included) / pages 1-37 (= 37p) / "44:24" on audiobook*. The page numbers I give you correspond to "the blue edition" (above). For other editions, refer to the chapter numbers. * For the audiobook, go HERE. You can listen to it as you read along (= Vous pouvez l'écouter en lisant le texte) - you can slow it down (= vous pouvez le ralentir) if you like, by clicking on the settings icon in video. CAREFUL: you must NOT read after chapter 53. >> you MUST have read up to chapter 53 (included) for October 5th. Here are the following deadlines and corresponding passages: - Thursday, October 19th: PART TWO_Chapters 59-113 / pages 38-99 (= 61p) / from "44:25" to "2:11:51", on audiobook - Thursday, November 9th: PART THREE_Chapters 127-167 / pages 100-155 (= 56p) / from "2:11:52" to "3:30:43", on audiobook - Thursday, November 23rd: PART FOUR_Chapters 173-211 / pages 156-217 (= 61p) / from "3:30:44" to "4:51:58", on audiobook - Thursday, December 7th: PART FIVE_Chapters 223-Appendix / pages 218-272 (= 54p) / from "4:52:11" to the end, on audiobook For this class, you will need: - a large (NOT thick) notebook for taking notes during class (take the largest size : more convenient for photocopies); - a small notebook for writing outside of class. It will be your "free expression notebook / journal / cultural diary / personal notebook"*. >> You will find a RECAP of English class supplies HERE. - In LLCER, you will study works of literature. >> The first one you must get is this novel: >>> You can either buy a new copy, or you can try and get a second-hand one from our previous LLCER students...
* Your personal notebook: ➢ You will have to create a cultural diary which will be a sort of journal/diary of everything important you do (= see, study, talk about...) in class. It will also contain elements of English-speaking movies / series / books / comic books / various works of art that you will encounter in your free time. They must come from the English-speaking world. This diary will be important to get you ready for next year’s exams. >> You will: - present the documents you are writing about (type of work, date, title, author, source + a personal synopsis or summary of the whole piece of work), - give your opinions about them (with reasons/explanations), - if possible explain how the personal documents you present are related to the documents and themes studied in class. >> To help you choose which documents to select, here are some suggestions: - For the classroom documents, simply select documents which you particularly liked and/or understood. - For the personal documents, it’s a matter of personal research and the idea of “going further”. >>> You can be inspired by a document seen in class, and decide to read the entire book or watch the full movie. >>> You can do research on a theme seen in class and find some other documents on the same theme which please you... by doing some research on the Internet, or by talking to friends or family who may have some ideas... >> You can illustrate your diary, and make it as artistic as you like! Tuesday: 8:00 am to 9:55 am (room I 040)
Thursday: 2:00 pm to 3:55 pm (room I 040) Here you will find complements to your notes taken in class, some exercises and links (= liens... en général représentés par le mot HERE ou par une image) to help you practice language notions and to do some research when necessary, and more information about your homework and assignments.
There can also sometimes be more personal messages that I address to the whole class. This is not a replacement for an agenda. For your first assignment, you must go HERE and be ready to put these class procedures into practice at our next class. For your second assignment, you must go HERE, and read the article carefully and with an open mind. This is for next week. Let me now welcome you to Camille Jullian! I wish you all a good back-to-school, and I hope we will have a great year together. |
